Nature, Fornos and the world

The artworks I create under the name Fornos are a reflection of my inner and outer world. They are a seismograph of my perception of the moment and are therefore created within a very short time. I began this new career path in 2024. May it be an artistic contribution to a world undergoing rapid change.

Gaining inspiration in nature

Last Sunday, I went for a walk in nature around Gemünden am Main, seeking exercise and a chance to clear my head. I travelled there using a "Deutschlandticket" (Germany-wide public transport ticket). Upon arrival, I encountered largely untouched nature and didn't meet another hiker for hours. I am grateful for this wonderful experience in the Spessart forest. Many thoughts ran through my mind as I walked through nature. This Monday, June 2nd, 2025, I was in bed at 10:00 PM, but couldn't sleep. As a lingering effect of yesterday's experience in nature, the idea just occurred to me that all the struggle and the current polarization in the world might have arisen from humanity's treatment of nature. To support this, I quote Harald Lesch, astrophysicist, natural philosopher, science journalist, television presenter, and audiobook narrator. His YouTube video from 2011 originates from the ZDF program "Leschs Kosmos". He is a professor of astrophysics at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich and a lecturer in philosophy of nature at the Munich School of Philosophy, and comes from Giessen, Germany.

"When the power of love triumphs over the love of power, the world will find peace."

We are witnessing a global trend toward autocratic power structures that lead to exclusion, discrimination, and outbreaks of violence. Many years ago, during my time as Head of Corporate Communications at brainLight GmbH, my boss, Ursula Sauer, quoted me as saying: "When the power of love triumphs over the love of power, the world will find peace." This statement perfectly captures the essence of global development in the 21st century when viewed from the top down. I hypothesize that this development began with colonization in the 15th century. I then learned through Google that it started with Christopher Columbus's discovery of America in 1492. This date marks its beginning and, as a consequence, paved the way for capitalism. Capitalism is based on profit maximization and private property and provides incentives for colonial expansion. Colonialism, in turn, provided resources and markets for capitalism. Capitalism, in turn, destroys nature through exploitation and pollution and alienates people from it through consumption and labor. In my opinion, the task in the 21st and 22nd centuries will be to achieve growing synergies between nature, humanity, work, and consumer behavior. Artistic representation in film, books, photography, and painting can pave the way to this goal by making meaningful contributions.
